Reaching your fitness goals at home is very possible!
Although as a fitness trainer I believe it is best to train in a gym because of the abundance of training equipment, it isn't entirely necessary. In fact it is quite possible to make great results in a home environment. But it really depends on what your goals are. For example, if your goal is to build muscle mass, it will be difficult if you don't have any freeweights (barbells and dumbbells) or a machine resistance system. However, if your goal is to lose fat then it isn't as difficult as it is to build muscle in a home environment. As far as diet is concerned with the term "home fitness" in mind, there really isn't any distinction between dieting at home or out in public, therefore in this article we will focus on the exercising portion of fitness.
Exercising : To lose fat in the home environment
- The equipment you need to lose fat at home can include a wide range of training machines and devices. The exercise aspect of fat loss includes training that has one goal in mind, and that is to increase your heart rate for a significant period of time. So actually, you don't *need* any exercise equipment to achieve this heightened state of cardiac output. You could run, jog, walk, swim, etc! But it certainly helps to have a treadmill, a stationary bike, elliptical trainer, or any of the other popular aerobic equipment. Using any of these machines / equipment for 30 minutes a day is more than sufficient for home fitness weight loss.
Exercising : To build muscle in the home environment
- If you wish to build muscle but don't have access to a training facility that includes the necessary resistance equpiment, then you will need to purchase your own. There are no work arounds when it comes to building muscle mass. Performing pushups for example will yield hardly any results because pushups don't place enough resistance on the muscles to force an adaptive response. Therefore you will want to purchase a bench press bench, along with a barbell, ezcurlbar, a series of weights + plates and dumbbells. Then you will have to familiarize yourself with the wide array of weight training exercises and formulate a suitable weight training routine.
