Custom Diet
Custom dieting is the sure path to losing fat or building muscle mass. Don't make "diet" synonymous with "fat loss", the word diet actually means the regular routine foods you eat every day. I just wanted to clear that up before you read any further because it angers me that many people are under that misconception. :) As a fitness trainer, I'd say the best form of diets are those that are unique and personal. So that basically eliminates all of those cheesy fad diets constructed by corporate swines fueled by greed. Yes, I'm angered. I'm angered that so many people are under the wrong idea about what it takes to lose fat, and what it takes to build muscle, because it is mostly due to the mass advertising of these horribly constructed canned fitness plans.
So forget everything you think you know about dieting, because most of it is probably false. Losing fat is easy, it's just a matter of forcing yourself to do what it takes to reach that goal. But when you actually sit down, devise a plan, and follow it; in several months time you will see a dramatic change in both your physical status and self esteem. Not only will you look better, but you will feel better in all aspects. So the transition period from one life to another life which is often the most difficult aspect, is a small price to pay when the grass is greener on the other side.
The problem probably arises in your mind when you think of a custom diet, because how else will you receive a diet personalized to your individual needs without paying $30 an hour for a personal trainer? Well, if you wish to construct your own diet then follow these certain few nutrition fundamentals and you will notice great change in months time.
- Eat smaller portioned meals, more frequently
Three big average American meals is not frequent enough, and usually too large. If you "stuff" yourself, you are hurting your efforts of fat loss. And if you neglect hunger, which many people do if they only eat three meals a day, you're also hurting your efforts of fat loss. The accepted norm is 5 smaller portioned meals a day. You can actually eat the same type and amount of food, but you will lose more calories eating more frequently. Why? Because you're forcing your digestive system to work harder which requires more calories to process the food. Therefore it raises your metabolism. - Stay away from processed food, and eat more natural foods.
Throw away the twinkies as an essential part of your diet, and make it a habbit of eating fruits and vegetables regularly on a daily basis. This will go a long way. - Replace soda/pop with water
At the very least I recommend trying to eliminate the consumption of soda, as it is definitely a hurtful equation in the solution to fat loss. - Eat well balanced
Don't emphasize, and don't neglect one particular type of food. Generally you want to consume 50% carbohydrates (the good kind), 35% protein, and 15% fat.
Integrating those few rules in your own diet will go a long way in the path to losing weight.
