Ab Exercise Program

There are many myths associated with the abdominal muscle group. If you are one of these people, hopefully this article will help shed some light on the reality of the abdominals. One of the most common myths believed is that if you do hundreds of situps every day, you will develop great noticable abs. Wrong! To even begin seeing the abdominals you must have no more than a certain percentage of bodyfat. In order to develop an effective ab exercise program, you must understand a few basics:

1. The biggest factor in developing great abs is your diet. Yes, that's right, your diet. You can do all of the ab crunches, leg raises, situps you want - But if you have too much bodyfat, you won't ever see them! Therefore a good diet along with a cardiovascular workout are two key important factors when seeking out that 6 pack beach body look.

2. You don't need to perform an array of abdominal exercises! I laugh when I see people doing 10 different abdominal exercises. You really only need one, and that is the crunch. Much like the bicep, the abdominals are really one muscle and can really only be worked out with one motion which is the ab crunch. If you don't see your abs after doing months and months of consistent ab crunches, introducing other abdominal exercises won't help - you should instead focus on your diet. Of course it is good to introduce variety, but your core exercise should be the ab crunch.

So please do yourself a favor and erase your memory of everything you thought you knew about your abs! Because the key to an effective ab exercise program / plan, is a well structered diet with cardiovascular workouts and consistent training of ab crunches.
